Microsoft 365 Copilot is a feature embedded within Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.

Microsoft 365 Copilot is designed for enterprise customers and launched on March 16, 2023. Copilot leverages the advanced capabilities of OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language models to enhance convenience, reduce the time spent on administrative tasks, and significantly improve productivity.

  • PowerPoint: In PowerPoint, Copilot can draft new slides based on your topic, propose suitable templates and layouts from an Outline, discover and add relevant images to enrich your slides, and condense lengthy presentations into a more concise format by using bullet points.
  • Outlook: Copilot helps you manage your emails efficiently by sorting them based on priority, analyzing intricate emails, summarizing them in easy-to-understand language, and suggesting brief, professional response emails.
  • Teams: Copilot in Microsoft Teams meetings helps you summarize meeting notes, organize key discussion points, offer recaps of chat content that you missed without interruptions, create lists of pros and cons for the current meeting topic, and schedule for the next meeting.

  1. Copilot receives an input prompt from a user in Microsoft 365 applications.
  2. Copilot pre-processes the input prompt through Microsoft Graph and Semantic Index.
  3. Copilot sends modified prompt to Large Language Model (LLM).
  4. Copilot receives the response from the LLM.
  5. Copilot post-processes through Microsoft Graph and Semantic Index.
  6. Copilot returns the response to Microsoft 365 applications.
